“Jesus, Refuge of the Weary”
By Girolamo Savonarola (1452-1498)
“Jesus, refuge of the weary,
Treasure of the Spirit’s love,
Fountain in Life’s Desert Dreary,
Savior from the world above;
O how oft Thine eyes, offended,
Gaze upon the sinner’s fall!
Yet upon the cross extended,
Thou dost bear the pain of all.
Do we pass that cross unheeding,
Breathing no repentant vow,
Though we see Thee, wounded, bleeding,
See Thou thorn-encircled brow!
Yet Thy sinless death has brought us
Life eternal, peace and rest;
Only what Thy grace has taught us
Calms the sinner’s stormy breast.
Jesus, may our hearts be burning
With more fervent love for Thee!
May our eyes be ever turning
To Thy cross of Agony;
Till in glory, parted never
From the Blessed Savior’s side
Graven in our hearts for ever
Dwell the cross, the Crucified.”
And then America’s preeminent theologian commenting on Psalm. 19:4-6, said,
“Christ,
When He rose,
Rose as a man of war,
As the LORD strong and mighty,
The LORD mighty in battle.”
The following scriptures specifically and generally speak of the Resurrection of our LORD Jesus Christ. We would highly recommend that you take a little time before Resurrection Sunday and meditatively read the suggested Scriptures below which we have gleaned from the MacArthur Study Bible. We were certainly blessed and we hope you will be too! It is the most significant and defining event in the history of the Christian faith.
It is an ancient Christian tradition that on the morning when we celebrate His resurrection that we greet one another with, “He is risen!” And the other party to whom the greeting is made responds, “He is risen indeed!”
May our remembrance of Him be pleasing to Him and may all of us rejoice in His goodness to us! And for the awesome love He displayed in dying for us even when we were sinners and then rising again and bestowing on us eternal life. How great a love is that?!
