Note. In this brief passage on the Tower of Babel, the trinity appears again in “Come let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” The reference to the trinity occurs first in Genesis 1:26, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..” Pastor MacArthur notes, “The first clear indication of the triunity of God (cf. 3:22, 11:17). The very name of God, Elohim (1:1), is a plural form of El. man. The crowning point of creation, a living human, was made in God’s image to rule creation. Our image. This defined man’s unique relation to God. Man is a living being capable of embodying God’s communicable attributes (cf. 9:6; Romans 8:28; Colossians 3:10; James 3:9). In his rational life, he was like God in that he could reason and had intellect, will, and emotion. In the moral sense, he was like God because he was good and sinless.” (Referring to man before the fall referenced to in Genesis 4:22, the third reference to the Trinity, ” Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil.”
The second note in chapter 11 is the genealogy of Shem, from whence came Abram, who would become Abraham, whom God promised, “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3.
