Note. The following is the list of the assignment of lands to Levitical family’s by name. According to Pastor MacArthur’s note on Joshua 21:1-42, “These 48 cities are for various branches of the Levite people to live in and have pasture for their livestock. People of the other tribes donated the areas, each site giving the Levites a vantage point from which to minister spiritually to the people nearby. In fairness, larger tribes devoted more land, smaller ones less (Numbers 35:8). Only the Kohathites were priests, with other branches of Levites assisting in various roles of ritual worship and manual labors.”
The promise fulfilled. Joshua 21:43-45.
“So the LORD gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the LORD had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.”
